Years ago if you would have asked me if my glass was half full or half empty I would proudly announce half empty. I was in a destructive mindset where I could find the negative in anything. If only I knew back then what I know now. How different my late teenage years would have been.
Why do we struggle to stay optimistic?
People now a day’s struggle to remain optimistic with the stress of money, job security and general day-to-day life that is now known as the norm. It has sadly become easier to be negative and judgemental, always wanting more from life. No wonder if we are filled with those feelings we struggle to remain optimistic!
Others have the view that you can not be optimistic and a realist at the same time. However I disagree. The perfect balance I believe is being realistic whilst remaining positive and optimistic. You can be a realist whilst being optimistic or pessimistic the choice is yours!
We all must accept bad things happen in life such as death and all things come to an end. It is inevitable. But why waste your energy focusing on the constant negative?
What are the benefits of seeing your glass half full
Lets put a half empty mindset vs a half full mindset and see who comes out on top.
Glass half empty
•Negative frame of mind
•Expects the worse outcome
•Likely to lead to mental health illnesses
•Makes you unhappy
Glass half full
•Makes you happier
•Prompt healthy habits
•Encourages a positive mindset
I think we have a clear winner. According to statistics 80% of (US) CEO’s are optimistic.
Always look for the good and think of good
Like attracts like. Think good and feel good and more good will come. It is as simple as that. Think bad and feel bad and all you will see will be bad. And guess what more will come. Of course there are bumps in the road, the key is to find the light in the darkness and focus on it. The more energy and focus you give to the light the stronger it will become.
My top 5 tips to becoming more optimistic
1. Practise Law of Attraction
I am a huge believer in this Law. We are such powerful beings and our mind creates our future. Attract what you desire, speak into existence and visualise!
2. Take chances
Put yourself out there and take a leap of faith. Having confidence in yourself makes you attractive to future employers. If your jump doesn’t land you where you want to be, that’s ok! Life is full of opportunities. Bigger and better ones will always come. Where you are now is exactly where you need to be.
3. Focus on the positives
Always focus on the positives. No matter how hard you have to look, you will find positivity to focus on.
4. Don’t take things for granted
It is easy to take for granted what we have if we are in a negative mindset. If you are starting to feel unsatisfied with life, STOP. Start filling your glass up with what you have.
A loving partner, a caring family, an income, a warm home, food on your table, a car, holidays, wonderful friends.
We all have goals and dreams we want to achieve, it’s human nature to desire things. My advice to you is not to get too wrapped up in your future wants that you take for granted your present blessings.
5. Be realistic
Set yourself realistic goals and challenges. An optimist can be made into a pessimist if they are constantly chasing unrealistic goals they have set.
So are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Sending love and light to you all,
